That’s what my paramedics call me. I’m a board-certified emergency physician, attorney, two-time military veteran, former police officer, TV host and producer, extreme adventurer and lifelong athlete, and author of Hard Target. I’ve spent my life running toward the things most people run from, and learning how to survive them.

Boulder Beginnings
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado, running, climbing, skiing, swimming, skateboarding and playing hockey and soccer. I raced BMX, where I won a state championship, finished second in the world, and was known for going big on jumps. At 16, I joined the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office as an Explorer, training with SWAT, patrol, search and rescue, and dispatch.

Service and the Badge
At 17, I enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve and served eight and a half years as a Navy corpsman and military police officer, while also working as an EMT. In college I interned with the U.S. Marshals Service and conducted investigations with what is now ICE. I graduated from the Colorado State Police Academy and spent two and a half years as a police officer, then worked mountain rescue in Vail.

Law and the Army
I earned my law degree at the University of Denver and taught as an adjunct professor at Regis University for nearly a decade. I was commissioned in the U.S. Army JAG Corps, completed Airborne training, and served as a hospital attorney and U.S. Army magistrate supporting the Criminal Investigation Division across bases in Georgia and South Carolina. After the Army, I worked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tacoma.

Medicine and the Courtroom
I earned my MD at the University of Washington and trained in emergency medicine at the University of New Mexico. I held national leadership positions in emergency medicine for a decade. Today I’m a certified Force Science Analyst and have testified extensively as an expert witness on traumatic injury, primarily in criminal cases.

Extreme Adventurer and Athlete
I’ve never slowed down. I race surfskis in open-ocean downwind conditions, rock climb, mountaineer, surf, ski the steep stuff, and ride motorcycles. Underwater, I’m a dive master, certified cave and technical diver, and volunteer rescue diver. I’m also a pilot.

On Screen
I competed on American Ninja Warrior in 2016 and on Surviving Mann in 2021. After several seasons as a top competitor, I became a co-host, and I now co-host several tactical and survival shows, including Face Off: The Tactical Decathlon on Pursuit Channel. I’m also an executive producer with American Stories Entertainment, with military and law enforcement projects in development, and a survival thriller feature film I wrote is in pre-production.

My dream? To be an action hero, not just in real life.
